'Pioneer Sergeant McKENZIE was mainly instrumental in organising the Battalion Pioneers as Stretcher Bearing parties during the attack on HINDENBURG LINE South of REINCOURT on 11th, April 1917. His example of courage, determination and devotion to duty was an inspiration to his men. The fact that the enemy were firing on the Stretcher Bearers was not allowed to deter them in their work, but served to spur to further efforts. The ability to seize and handle a situation under the most adverse conditions merits this very capable and courageous Non Commissioned Officer every recognition.'
