Military Medal

'Near BAPUAME on the night 15/16th March, this man when the platoon had been held up by the enemy fire, and the officer in command had been wounded during an attack on a strong post, rushed his Lewis Gun forward at great personal risk. He opened fire on the enemy snipers and a Machine Gun which had already caused a number of casualties and succeeded in keeping them down, thereby enabling his platoon to advance. His prompt action was of the greatest possible value.'

Bar to Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry as a Lewis gunner during the capture of the trenches near BULLECOURT on 3rd May 1917, and for extremely skilful handling of his gun. In supporting the further attack on the Tramline he moved his gun 20 yards in front of the line to engage the enemy better and inflicted heavy losses until compelled to fall back for want of ammunition.'
