Meritorious Service Medal 'Is brought to notice for his work during the period September 17th 1918 to December 31st 1918. For over three years he has been Band-Master of the Regimental Band, and as such has rendered most invaluable service; his untiring efforts to keep his men up to a high standard and the results achieved there from are a big factor in the corresponding high state of discipline and contentment of the Battalion as a whole. during March - April 1918 at HEBUTERNE when the Battalion was "up against" the enemy Sergeant McMAHON used his Band as Ration, Ammunition, and stretcher bearer parties, he himself being always at their head; this work very greatly relieved the strain on the Line men. His work, personality and recognition of duty have in every respect been of a high standard and his Comrades appreciate him as one well worthy of recognition, and he is recommended accordingly.'
