Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty at VAIRE and HAMEL WOOD, south east of CORBIE on 4th July, 1918. As Company stretcher bearer he worked tirelessly, attending to the wounded of three Battalions under heavy enemy shell fire through the WOOD. At the very outset he was wounded but refused to allow himself to be evacuated. his cheerful demeanour although he was in great pain and his tireless devotion to his wounded comrades earned him the respect and admiration of all ranks.'
