Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When ordered to follow the infantry advance with one gun, he found that there was no track by which he could proceed whereupon he immediately made a reconnaissance, crossing four time through hostile barrage, and, having found a suitable point, collected two working parties and constructed a track. The whole operation was carried out under intense and accurate hostile shelling and heavy rifle and machine gun fire and he succeeded, by the very greatest coolness, initiative, and perseverance, in accomplishing his task.'
