Wounded in action, Palestine, 13 November 1917 (gun shot wound, neck), and admitted to 4th Light Horse Field Ambulance; transferred to 74th Casualty Clearing Station, 14 November 1917; to 44th Stationary Hospital, Kantara, 15 November 1917; to 14th Australian General Hospital, Abbassia, 16 November 1917. Listed as 'dangerously ill', 18 November 1917. Medical report, 31 December 1917: 'Complete paralysis from waist downwards came on immediately [after wounding].'

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Ulysses', 15 February 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 18 March 1918, for overland travel to Adelaide; discharged (medically unfit), 10 October 1918.
