'On the 9th August 1918 near HARBONNIERES this man displayed great courage and determination while acting as one of a party of stretcher bearers. He made repeated trips across NO MANS LAND under a heavy fire during the day carrying in not only his own men, but those of the 29th Battalion and units of the 2nd Australian Division. Their work was carried on throughout the day under most trying conditions, but he refused to cease until the wounded had all been cleared. His bravery was above all praise, and he set a wonderful example to his comrades.'
