Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership. He directed the advance of his company under the direct fire of snipers and machine guns with a disregard of danger and skil which were admired by all ranks. He personally, with the assistance of two men, captured two enemy machine guns and their crews, and thus materially assisted our advance. He was eventually wounded while supervising the consolidation, when the final objective was captured. His example was splendid.'
