Military Medal 'During the operations along MENIN ROAD east of YPRES on 20th and 22nd September, 1917 he was employed as company runner between strong point in POLYGON WOOD and HOOGE CRATER. He successfully accomplished seven trips aggregating 25 miles passing through successive barrages time after time. During the preliminary operations a sapper was killed in CHATEAU WOOD and Sapper McNAUGHTON believing the man was only badly wounded went out under heavy fire to assist him. He set a splendid example of devotion to duty.'
