'For gallantry and devotion to duty. On 29 September, during the attack on the Hindenburg Line, at Bony, he took charge of the section of four guns, and pushing forward in the face of heavy opposition, got his guns into ac tion and successfully engaged hostile machine gun nests at close range.'
