Military Cross 'Throughout the operations of forcing the pasage of the Somme, from 30th August to 5th September 1918, he commanded his company with great gallantry under fire and fine tactical ability. He was untiring in his reconnaissances and patrols, working night and day, and setting an example of devotion to duty to his men that had a great effect. His skilful handling of more than one difficult situation materially helped the success of the operation.'
