Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and consistent devotion to duty. This soldier for over a year has acted as a stretcher bearer with the 54th Battalion. Throughout that period his bravery and devotion to duty have been most noticeable. Repeatedly he has risked his life tending wounded men and has worked continuously with his wounded comrades under very heavy shell fire. During the attack on PERONNE on 1st and 2nd September, 1918, he worked unceasingly for 48 hours carrying wounded from the line to the forward aid post without rest.'
