Military Medal

'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty during operations against enemy position south of the SOMME east of HAMEL, on 8th August, 1918. Although separated from his platoon owing to the dense fog, he successfully led his section through ACCROCHE WOOD. He rushed two machine gun posts, capturing the two guns and 12 men. With his section he captured altogether 32 men. Throughout the advance he displayed courage and leadership of a high order, and greatly inspired his comrades.'
