War service: embarked from Alexandria with transport for Gallipoli on board H.T. 'Knight Templar', 4 September 1915. Admitted to 16th Casualty Clearing Station, 8 October 1915 (enteritis). Disembarked at Alexandria from Mudros, 23 September 1915. Transferred to Machine Gun Company as Driver, 2 March 1916.

Embarked from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 14 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 21 March 1916.

Found guilty of neglecting to obey an order, i.e. galloping horses from watering parade: awarded 5 days' Field Punishment No. 2. On leave in the United Kingdom, 2 September 1917; returned from leave, 16 September 1917. Admitted to 51st General Hospital, Etaples, for venereal disease treatment; total treatment: 69 days. Rejoined unit, 29 December 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal, 1 March 1918. Proceeded on leave to England, 23 August 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 10 September 1918.

Marched out for return to Australia, 10 January 1919; marched in No. 2 Convalescent Depot, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, 16 January 1919. Commenced return to Australia from Devonport on board 'Anchises', 28 February 1919; disembarked Albany, 7 April 1919. Discharged, 10 June 1919.
