War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Transferred from 22nd Bn to 21st Bn, Egypt, 27 August 1915. Proceeded to join Mediterranean Expeditionary Force from Alexandria, 29 August 1915. Admitted to 13th Casualty Clearing Station, 18 September 1915; proceeded to Mudros on HS 'Maheno', 18 September 1915 (tonsillitis); admitted to 'Floriana' Hospital, Malta, 23 September 1915 (gastritis). Proceeded to England on board 'Regina d'Italia', 9 October 1915; admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham, 18 October 1915; discharged to Depot, Abbey Wood, 3 February 1916. Discharged from duty, London, 18 June 1916 (permanently unfit for service at home or abroad). Medical report upon discharge states: 'On the 17th September invalided to Malta with dysentery and tonsillitis, thence to Birmingham. About two months ago he developed synovitis in left knee.
