Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 14 July 1917 (internal colic); transferred to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 15 July 1917; to 12th General Hospital, Rouen, 24 July 1917 (appendicitis); to England, 27 July 1917, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston, 28 July 1917 (appendicitis, severe); to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 31 August 1917; to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 5 September 1917; to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 20 October 1917; to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverell, 8 November 1917. Transferred to Artillery Details, 4 December 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 16 January 1918; taken on strength, 12th Field Artillery Brigade, Belgium, 22 January 1918.

Admitted to 9th Canadian Field Ambulance, 16 May 1918 (bronchitis); transferred to 11th Canadian Field Ambulance, 18 May 1918; rejoined unit, France, 30 May 1918. Transferred to 112th Battery, 19 June 1918.

Wounded in action, 17 October 1918 (gun shot wound, back), and admitted to 48th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 11th Stationary Hospital, 18 October 1918 (dysentery); to 25th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 19 October 1918; to 20th General Hospital, Camiers, 26 November 1918; to England, 26 November 1918, and admitted to University War Hospital, Southampton, 27 November 1918; to Convalescent Hospital, Barton, 10 January 1919; discharged on furlough, 29 January 1919, to report to No 2 Command Depot, 12 February 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Khyber', 31 March 1919; disembarked Brisbane, 18 May 1919; discharged,5 July 1919.
