Military Medal

'This man was a Section runner in the operations before PERONNE commencing on 1st September 1918, and on numerous occasions, particularly on 2nd September, he carried important despatches to and from a forward Section. He carried this work out coolly and well, and disregarded the risks he ran from the heavy shell and machine gun fire of the enemy. When the men were without rations, and unable to leave their guns, this runner went through heavy fire and obtained supplies for the whole Section. His courage, devotion to duty and cheerfulness deserve special recognition.'
