Military Medal

'On 8th August, 1918, east of HAMEL. For conspicuous gallantry. He accompanied his Section Officer in the first reconnaissance for artillery road. By his coolness and utter disregard for personal safety, he set a splendid example to his men who were engaged in repairing road behind assaulting troops, for the passage of artillery. In spite of heavy artillery and machine gun fire he kept his party at work getting the most difficult part of road repaired within 1 hour after Zero, then rendering material assistance towards the completion of a very difficult task in quick time and thereby enabling artillery to pass as the earliest possible moment.'
