Military Medal

'Between CHALK PIT and POZIERES, from 16th. to 22nd. August 1916, Sergeant MILLS organised the stretcher bearers of 2nd Australian Field Ambulance. He repeatedly, under heavy fire and over difficult ground assisted in carrying wounded from Regimental Aid Posts in POZIERES to the Dressing Station at CHALK PIT. He also organised the expeditious evacuation of patients from CHALK PIT to Main Dressing Station under fire. All the time he was practically without rest and constantly under fire. By his splendid and conspicuous devotion to duty he inspired the other bearers in their difficult and dangerous work.'
