Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 25 March 1916.

Admitted to 36th Casualty Clearing Station, 7 November 1916 (diarrhoea); transferred by Ambulance Train to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Rouen, 8 November 1916; to England, 15 November 1916, and admitted to 4th Southern General Hospital, 18 November 1916; to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 3 January 1917. Discharged on furlough, 8 January 1917, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 24 January 1917.
