Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force,18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 29 June 1916. Wounded in action, 21 July 1916 (gun shot wound, left arm and leg); invalided to England, 22 July 1916, and admitted to Edmonton Military Hospital (wound: severe). Transferred to Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital, Pinner, Middlesex, 11 September 1916; transferred to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, 15 November 1916; discharged to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 18 November 1916.
