Wounded in action, 17 May 1917 (gassed and partially buried three times by shells). Transferred to England, 29 May 1917, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, London. Granted furlough, 18 August 1917, to report to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 1 September 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Borda', 26 September 1917; discharged (shell shock), 15 February 1918.
