Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty during operations against enemy positions south of the SOMME east of HAMEL on 8th August, 1918. Lance Corporal BERRY did valuable work in the laying of our jumping off tapes, and the direction tapes in No Man's Land; also in cutting gaps in the wire. In the advance through AACCROCHE WOOD, he led his Lewis gun section with great skill and fired his gun to good effect. He helped in the capture of two machine guns and 16 prisoners. He did very good work in maintaining direction through the dense fog and in directing small parties which had lost their way. Throughout this N.C.O. did very good work and displayed both initiative and courage.'
