Military Medal 'Under heavy enemy shell fire for three days prior to operations on 26th September, 1917, this N.C.O. assisted in burying and laying forward signal communications from GLENCORSE WOOD toward POLYGON WOOD. During the operations from 26th to 30th September, when the buried cable system was destroyed he made every effort to repair breaks, and when the whole route was found to be destroyed beyond repair, he ran lines on the surface, and made every endeavour to maintain signal communication to the forward positions. He was continually working under heavy hostile shell fire and in exposed positions during the whole operations, and by his courage and constant devotion to duty set a fine example to his party, resulting in interruptions being repaired with the least possible delay.'
