'This N.C.O. had charge of a bombing party in a post within 15 feet of the enemy's post on RUSSELL'S TOP, GALLIPOLI. On several occasions he, by his personal efforts, maintained a superiority in bombing and at great personal risk. On night of evacuation - 20th December 1915 - he remained out in a listening post for seven hours.'
