Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. By his splendid example he led his men to the atack with reat vigour. He very skilfully took command of his company after the company commander had beocme a casualty. He rushed a strong point single handed and was responsible for its capture. By his fine example he kept up his men's spirits under heavy fire, establishing and garrisoning an important tatical position.'
