Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry. In the attack on BROODSEINDE RIDGE on 4th October, 1917, this N.C.O. led his Lewis Gun team with the utmost daring and determination. He caused heavy enemy casualties by firing from his hip during the advance and showed much initiative in the control of his fire during a flanking movement on a Pill Box. When the final objective was reached he was the first man out in front, and did splendid work in covering the consolidation.'
