Military Medal 'On the 7th June, 1917, during the operations south of MESSINES. This N.C.O. led his men in the assault with great dash and determination. He personally shot 5 of the enemy, and took several others prisoners. During the work of consolidation he moved fearlessly among his men, supervising operations, regardless of artillery and machine gun fire. Although wounded later he supervised the distribution and issue of rations and water whilst under a heavy barrage. His fearlessness and courage encouraged his men under the most trying circumstances.'
