'For bravery at VILLERS BRETONEUX on 3rd May, 1918. He was in charge of a gun team, and although wounded early in the attack, he refused to leave his post. In the subsequent withdrawal he displayed excellent initiative and leadership in getting all his men and gun gear safely back. He displayed great bravery and set a fine example to his men.'
