Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After his platoon had entered an enemy trench under murderous enemy machine gun fire, he showed great courage in rallying his section. His personal example in killing eight of the enemy single handed materially aided the extrication of his platoon from a position of great peril.'
