Military Medal 'During the operations at BROODSEINDE RIDGE, East of YPRES, 1st to 9th October, 1917, L/Cpl MORTIMER was in charge of a carrying party attached to the 3rd Austtralian Machine Gun Co. Throughout the operations his party carried rations and ammunition, and through his unfailing efforts and high sense of duty, he never failed at any time to get his party through to the front line despite the very bad weather conditions, almost impossible country, and continuous heavy enemy shell fire. Through his great devotiion to duty he set a great example to those under him, and encouraged them to carry on.'
