Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 5th April 1918 during the attack on our line opposite DERNANCOURT, this N.C.O. - who was in charge of a gun - displayed great courage and steadiness. The Battery was under heavy fire but continued in action throughout the day. By his fine example, fearless bearing and energy this N.C.O. ensured the continued and rapid fire of his gun throughout this critical period and set a splendid example to his detachment.'
