'Is brought to notice for his devotion to duty during operations near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917. This man is a Regimental stretcher bearer, and from the time the attack was launched, until the Battalion was relieved, he worked, without rest, getting in the wounded, under heavy machine gun and artillery fire. Once, whilst carrying in case, the other bearer was wounded and the man on the stretcher was killed by a shell. He succeeded in getting in his wounded companion to the R.A.P., and then in spite of his bad shaking, continued to carry in other wounded men. He is recommended for distinction.'
