'At CHUIGNES, FRANCE, for period 22nd/26th August, 1918 for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. During the enemy retirement he was constantly employed on reconnaissance patrol work, and was keen in his efforts to locate the enemy. His bravery, skill and devotion are beyond praise. The knowledge he gained by vigorous patrol work considerably helped his Company to obtain their objectives.'
