Military Medal 'This man did excellent work in collecting wounded under heavy shell fire on June 8th and 9th. Whilst returning to an Aid Post near MESSINES on June 8th, he saw an Officer badly wounded, lying at a spot where the shell fire had become very severe. Private Murphys at once ran to the Officer's assistance, stopped the haemorrhage, dressed the wound and stayed with him until assistance arrived, thus undoubtedly saving the Officer's life.'
