'For gallantry and devotion to duty during the period midnight 16th/17th September, 1918, to 11th November, 1918. This man showed great bravery bringing in wounded during the operations from 18th to 23rd September, 1918, near JEANCOURT carrying out wounded under heavy fire for many hours at a time without food or rest. His example has always helped other stretcher-bearers materially.'
