Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer during the attack on the Hindenburg Line North of BELLICOURT on 30th September 1918. Although Machine Gun and shell fire were particularly heavy, this gallant stretcher bearer was almost foremost in attending to the wounded. He constantly moved about, heedless of danger, under the heaviest fire, in the execution of his duty, and did magnificent work in carrying numerous wounded men from exposed positions. While engaged on a perilous excursion into No Man's Land, Murray was unfortunately severely wounded. The fine example of courage and unselfish devotion to duty displayed by this gallant soldier did much to inspire his comrades during the succeeding days fighting.'
