'During the attack on 31st July No. 2050 Gunner T. MURRAY 53rd Battery, 14th F.A. Bde. was a signaller accompanying 2/Lieut. V. TOMSON, 71st Brigade, R..F.A.A who was a F.O.O. At 4. a.m. just as the attack had started this signaller was shot through the left hand. Notwithstanding the severe pain he continued laying out his line under heavy fire till the final O.P. was established at STATION Buildings and continued in rendering every assistance to 2/Lieut. TOMSON and in repairing the line all the time under heavy enemy fire until 4. p.m. when the situation had cleared. This man's extreme gallantry and devotion to duty was a magnificent example to the remainder of the party and was mainly instrumental in enabling communications to be successfully maintained.'
