Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This N.C.O. in charge of a bombing section, encountered an enemy post. He at once rushed it single handed, shooting the occupants before they had time to fire. He then continued to advance up a communication trench under heavy fire and held the end of it until his men came up. He saved many casualties by his promptness.'
