Admitted to 4th Field Ambulance, 18 April 1916 (tachycardia); transferred to Australian Casualty Clearing Station (old pneumonia), and then to 1st Australian Stationary Hospital, Ismailia, 20 April 1916 (bronchitis); discharged to duty, 2 May 1916; rejoined Bn, 3 May 1916.

Found guilty, 11 May 1916, of being absent from 6 am parade and twice being absent from punt fatigue: forfeited 1 day's pay.

Found guilty, 23 May 1916, of being absent from punt fatigue, 545 am, 23 May: awarded 1 day's Field Punishment No 2, and to do 7 days of punt fatigue.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 8 June 1916.

Admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 3 November 1916, and transferred to No 2 Stationary Hospital, Abbeville (oedema, leg); to No 5 Convalescent Depot, Cayeux, 15 November 1916; to 4th Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 26 November 1916; rejoined Bn, in the field, 10 January 1917.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 5 February 1917.

Promoted Temporary Corporal, 23 February 1917.

Admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 29 March 1917 (boils, arm), and reverted to Lance Corporal on being evacuated to hospital; transferred to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 29 March 1917 (boils, neck; blistered heel); discharged to unit, 4 April 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 6 April 1917.

Found guilty, 13 November 1917, of neglecting to obey AIF Depots in UK Orders No 719 of 22-6-17 para. Bounds; (2) improperly dressed: reprimanded.

Proceeded overseas to France, 31 December 1917; rejoined 15th Bn, in the field, 4 January 1918.

Admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance, 6 January 1918 (ingrown toenail); transferred to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 9 January 1918; to No 2 Convalescent Depot, 20 January 1918; to Australian Intermediate Base Depot, Havre, 5 February 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 18 February 1918.

Killed in action, 4 July 1918.
