Military Medal

'For great courage and initiative. At FOUCAUCOURT and eastward to the SOMME south of PERONNE on 28th and 29th August, this N.C.O. moved forward with the advancing Infantry to search for and remove land mines and traps from the main roads. He assisted his Officer in locating and removing 27 mines, and it was due to his great initiative and speed in keeping close up to the Infantry, that the guns and limbers moved safely and quickly forward. The fact of there being only one accident, due to land mines, on the main roads, is proof of the thoroughness and speed with which this man worked. His services in this respect are worthy of the highest praise and recognition.'
