Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous courage and perseverance near Peronne, 31 August, 1918, in maintaining the line from Barieux alone for fifteen hours, and in repairing it under continuous heavy artillery fire. It was undoubtedly due to his devotion to duty that this line was successfully maintained throughout the operations.'

Wounded in action, 2 May 1918 (shrapnel wound, left thigh), and admitted to 14th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 20th Casualty Clearing Station; to 26th General Hospital, 4 May 1918; to England, 5 May 1918, and admitted to King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London (gun shot wound, left thigh); transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 21 May 1918; discharged on furlough, 31 May 1918, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 14 June 1918.

Marched into Overseas Training Brigade, Longridge Deverill, 29 June 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 13 August 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 19 August 1918.

Detached on course at Armourers Workshop, 13 December 1918; rejoined unit, 25 February 1919.

Marched out for return to Australia, 1 April 1919.
