Military Medal 'On the night of 12th instant, near MORLANCOURT, this N.C.O. displayed exceptional gallantry and devotion to duty in handling the Battalion Transport whilst carrying rations to the line. When the limbers were moving up to the ration dump in the forward area, heavy enemy shelling was encountered at a cross roads, which caused the horses to swerve and gallop back along the route. Corporal NICKSON set the limbers on their route again, and on reaching the same spot further shelling was experienced, again causing the horses to become unmanageable, and as a result of this, two limbers became locked and were immovable. With remarkable coolness and regardless of the persistent enemy shelling, he unlimbered the horses and with extreme difficulty cleared the block and again set the limbers on their track. The persistence of this N.C.O. cleared a very difficult situation and his disregard of his own safety was a splendid example to the other members of the Transport Section.'
