Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near ASCENSION WOOD on 18th September 1918. Throughout the operation this man was attached to the Forward Battalion Report Centre as a linesman. He was continually called upon to repair lines to forward companies. This work he often had to carry out under very heavy fire at great personal risk. After the first day the whole of the work devolved upon him and his N.C.O. as the other linesmen had become casualties. His tireless exertions and total disregard of self assisted most materially in maintaining communication forward during a very critical stage of the battle.'
