'On the 8th August 1918 during the attack of the 31st Battalion from WARFUSEE-ABANCOURT. This N.C.O. showed considerable tactical ability in overcoming hostile points of resistance and by his courage and boldness helped to keep the forward movement going at a rapid rate. On a subsequent occasion he materially helped towards the capture of three 77 M M guns near BAYONVILLERS by boldly advancing his Lewis gun and bringing enfilade fire to bear on them., thus enabling the infantry to eventually surround same. He showed power of leadership much above the ordinary, throughout the entire operation.'
