Embarked Sydney, 7 February 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 11 April 1917, and marched in to 9th Training Bn, Rollestone.

Admitted to Fargo Hospital, 27 September 1917 (bomb accident: lacerated wound of face); discharge to Training Depot, 2 October 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 17 October 1917; taken on strength, 26th Bn, Belgium, 24 October 1917.

Admitted to 7th Australian Field Ambulance, 20 December 1917 (frostbite, feet), and transferred to Divisional Rest Station; to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 2 January 1918; to Ambulance Train No 29, 4 January 1918, and admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne; transferred to No 1 Convalescent Depot, 11 January 1918; to Base Depot, Boulogne, 16 February 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 7 March 1918.

Wounded in action, 11 August 1918 (gun shot wound, left shoulder, penetrating chest), and admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 53rd Casualty Clearing Station; to 8th General Hospital, 13 August 1918; to England, 24 August 1918, and admitted to Bath War Hospital, 25 August 1918; discharged on furlough, 21 October 1918, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 4 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Somerset', 4 December 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 15 January 1919, for onward travel to Brisbane; discharged (medically unfit), Brisbane, 16 February 1919.
