'On 30th September 1918, when the advance guard from Sasa was held up and suffering casualties, he, quickly realizing the situation, galloped to a flank with his troops, and charged, dispersing and killing the enemy. Although the fire was particularly heavy, he charged again, cutting off a party of 180 enemy with a field piece, driving them towards our lines, whilst part of his troop drove the remainder back. Throughout he displayed marked courage and ability.'
