Reverted to Sergeant at own request upon assuming duties of Pay Sergeant and to be borne Supernumerary to Establishment to 44th Bn, 10 January 1917; marched in to join Pay Corp Instruction School, 13 January 1917; marched out to 44th Bn, 22 January 1917 (attached to pay duties).

Taken on strength of Australian Army Pay Corps as Pay Sergeant from 44th Bn, France, 28 April 1917.

Proceeded on leave to England, 23 July 1918; returned from leave, 11 August 1918; marched in for duty with Chief Pay Office from paymaster 3rd Australian Division, 30 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT ?Karmala?; disembarked Adelaide, 1 July 1919; discharged Adelaide, 14 October 1919.
