Before his marriage to Laura Henrietta Poulsen on 24 August 1920 at the Wesley Church, Maryborough, Queensland, he was a farmer on the family property at Boorall. He then took up cane farming at Nikenbah (now part of Hervey Bay) until the late 1920s when he moved to Kingaroy. In the mid 1930s he joined the Bureau of Census and Statistics in Canberra - later transferring to Sydney where he worked until his retirement. Was the first President of the R.S.L. Sub-Branch at Pialba (Hervey Bay) and he laid the foundation stone of the War Memorial there. An excellent sportsman (football, tennis and cricket). Served 2 years 177 days (of which 2 years and 103 days were abroad). Active service at Gallipoli and France. Was wounded (bomb wounds) to the left thigh and back at Mouquet Farm. Hospitalized at No. 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, Middlesex, England. Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal |
