War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 7 February 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 11 April 1917, and marched in to 7th Training Bn, Rollestone. Proceeded overseas to France, 27 November 1917, and transferred to 26th Bn; taken on strength, 25th Bn, in the field, 6 December 1917. Wounded in action, 12 June 1918 (gun shot wound, right arm and thigh), and admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 61st Casualty Clearing Station; to 54th General hospital, 15 June 1918; to England, 27 June 1918, and admitted to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital (affiliated with Norfolk War Hospital) (wound severe: right arm amputated above elbow); transferred to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 20 August 1918; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 31 August 1918. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Borda', 20 October 1918; disembarked Sydney, 19 December 1918, for onward travel to Brisbane; discharged (medically unfit: wounded), Brisbane, 14 February 1919.
